Santa Claus 7s 2007
October 26, 2007
Summary:
Five teams competed for the Golden Santa this year: Washington D.C., Johnson City, UT, Knox1, Knox2. The weather was unfortunately nice and sunny this year resulting in some Santa 7s faithfuls to leave early in disgust (Boo was not one of those people).
U23s Over Tennessee Tech 39-12
October 20, 2007
Knoxville’s U23 side, The Colts, showed some really positive play against Tennessee Tech in Cookville today. With the help of a very grizzled and corpulent tight five, the young guys in the back line and loose forwards put on a show of entertaining rugby.
It was obvious when we arrived that we were outsized, especially at the inside backs. Those guys were huge. They didn’t look like any fun to either tackle or be tackled by, so we planned accordingly. Knoxville’s forwards and backs complimented each other really well for the whole day. We kept the pressure on at every opportunity as we knew we’d have a tough time attacking a larger side if we allowed them to organize.

Nashville 33 Knoxville 14
October 5, 2007
For the last time this fall season, the Possum faithful saddled up for another away game. This time we travelled across the plateau to play against the Nashville Outlaws. As 10 of us stood around and watched the 30+ men in black go through their warmups, we knew it was going to be another one of “those days”. Eventually the rest of our team showed up, and 18 guys put on our new possum jerseys ready to play ( Thank you Donna and Vince at Sports Locker ).

Dayton 31 Knoxville 24
September 21, 2007
Yet again the rugby gods have chosen to punish the faithful by robbing us of several players before another big away-game. This time we traveled up to sunny Dayton, Ohio, to take on the flying pigs. My worst fears were realized when we only had 13 players (plus little’ole me) show up at the pitch … a far cry from the 24 or so we’ve had at practice. In a show of true spartan spirit, the boys from Knoxville chose the pipe wrench (playing with 14) over the belt (playing with 14 + help from Dayton) and took to the field. Understandably, chaos ensued. Dayton jumped off to a quick lead due to mistakes and confusion on our part, and we were never able to overtake them. At one point late in the match we had clawed our way back to a two point deficit, despite the loss of Rob W. our fullback. But a late try to Dayton sealed the deal and we lost the match 24 - 31.
Knoxille 26 Triad 17
September 14, 2007
It was a sunny Saturday as the possum faithful travelled over to Greensboro to take on the dogs of Triad. I guess the combination of distance and UT home game didn’t help our numbers any, and we only travelled with fifteen players … plus coach/wing/medic/waterboy/kicking tee carrier/linesman. And we were fortunate enough to have the assistance of old boy Buck Rogers to tape us in action … for better or worse. The squad that travelled included some new faces to the club but everyone played to the best of their ability/fitness level at this point in the season and I was well pleased.
