Possums Elect New Leadership

Knoxville Rugby recently adopted new by-laws aimed at reorganizing the leadership structure to better position itself for the growth of the club and rugby as a competitive sport in the United States.   The club will be led by the President and 5 vice-presidents who will oversee operations, finances, playing, communications, and alumni and development respectively.  Each officer will be elected to a 3 year term with two positions being elected annually.  The club will also elect team captains, a team treasurer, and a team social chair to serve 1 year terms.  The new officers bring over 150 years of combined rugby experience to the Possums.


Club President – Bobby Hampstead started his rugby career at the University of Tennessee, where he played from 1973-1979 and also served as president, captain, match secretary and social chair.  Bobby was the force behind the formation of the Knoxville Rugby Club in 1980 and was Knoxville”s 1st president.  Bobby has also served as captain, match secretary, social chair, coach and an executive board member over the club”s 32 year history.  In 2003 Bobby joined the Smoky Mountain Athletic Club (SMAC), serving as the head coach for Powell High School (2003-2007) and as a board member.  In addition to serving as the president of KRFC, Bobby is also the head coach of the Knoxville Women”s Rugby Club and board chair for SMAC.  Bobby is a Project Coordinator with Blount Contractors, Inc. and he and his wife Debbie have two children: John Paul (28) and Emily (25).


VP of Operations – Adam Ingle started playing rugby in 1997 while enrolled at the University of Tennessee.  In 2000 he joined the Possums and has held several positions including match secretary (twice) and president (2008-2011).  Adam played for the Charleston Outlaws and served as their fundraising chairmen from 2004-06. He currently serves as a referee for the mid-south and SMAC.  Adam is the head brewer for the (working title) Brewing Company and he and his wife Margaret-Anne have one son: Ronan (1).


VP of Finance – Marty Bradley, played collegiate rugby at jameshallison casino Tennessee Technological University from 1983-1987 before moving to Knoxville in 1988 where he joined the Knoxville Rugby Club and played for 8 years, serving as captain for 5.  He has been extremely active in the rugby community starting as an assistant coach at UT in 1996 before becoming the head coach in 2011.  In 2001 he helped found the Smoky Mountain Athletic Club bringing high school rugby to East Tennessee and has held various positions with USA rugby including chair of the Collegiate Eligibility Committee and the Collegiate Director for USA Rugby South. He currently serves as the head coach for The University of Tennessee and Bearden High School and is a board member and treasurer for the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference.  Marty is the Executive Vice President at Knoxville Post Office Credit Union and he and his wife Shauna have two daughters: Claire (17) and Olivia (14).


VP of Playing – Matt Noss Started playing rugby in Australia at the age of 7.  He played high school rugby for the Dubbo Rugby Club starting at the u13 levels and continued to play with their competitive men’s sides and representative teams.   He was selected to play with a traveling side of ex-Wallabies for a local exhibition game and got to don the green and gold.  He joined the Possums in 2001 and served as the captain for 5 seasons.  He currently serves as a referee for the mid-south and SMAC.  Matt is the President of Matt Noss Construction and he and his wife Emily have two sons: Abram (2) and Andrew (1).


VP of Communications – Brad Lokitz started his rugby career in 1999 playing for the Jackson Rugby Club before founding the Millsaps Rugby Club in 2001. He played for the University of Southern Mississippi before moving to Knoxville in 2007.  Since joining the Possums he has served as the club secretary, treasurer, and president.  He currently serves as the Referee Assigner for the Smoky Mountain Athletic Club and as a referee for the mid-south and SMAC.  Brad is a scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and lives in Knoxville with his wife Rachel.


VP of Alumni and Development – Ryan Miller started playing rugby at the University of Indiana in 1990.  After moving to Knoxville in 1994 he joined the Possums and has been playing ever since.  Ryan has been heavily involved in the club serving as an officer since 1999 and was instrumental in the development of Possum Park.  He currently serves as a referee for the mid-south and SMAC.  Ryan is the Solid Waste Assistant Field Office Manager for the State of Tennessee and lives in Knoxville with his wife Heather.
