June 12 - A long time supporter of UT and Knoxville Rugby passed away at her daughter’s home Saturday June 11th. Iris had three sons (Paul, Bob & Mike Hampstead) who all played for the Possums. Iris always loved to have Rugby players over for a holiday meal or just to visit, and many old Possums went to her house first, before the Tap Room. Iris’ home was the site of several Knoxville Rugby parties and she did not flinch when the Possums asked to dig a pig roasting pit in her backyard. She opened her home to visiting teams’ players as well, and through the years had players stay as long as three weeks. Iris also attended the Possums’s 30th year Dinner and got a chance to catch up with many of her old friends. Iris will be remembered for her generosity and hospitality to all Rugby players as well to her many friends.

Iris’s family will receive friends 5-7 PM at Berry Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service to follow. Family and friends will meet Wednesday 9:00 AM at Berry Funeral Home for a procession to Mt. Olive Cemetery, Maryville Pike, for an interment service. Lunch for family and friends will follow at her daughter’s South Knoxville home. The family invites you to share your condolences as well as your thoughts and memories of Iris, on her memorial website at www.berryfuneralhome.com
