For the last time this fall season, the Possum faithful saddled up for another away game. This time we travelled across the plateau to play against the Nashville Outlaws. As 10 of us stood around and watched the 30+ men in black go through their warmups, we knew it was going to be another one of “those days”. Eventually the rest of our team showed up, and 18 guys put on our new possum jerseys ready to play ( Thank you Donna and Vince at Sports Locker ).
We had a real mix of ages and experience out on the pitch, some of which worked to our advantage and some didn’t. The Knoxville pack put plenty of pressure on Nashville’s scrum, even winning a couple against the head. Unfortunately, except for a couple of bright spots including some slick work from the base of the scrum and Luke’s solo effort, the rest of the game went Nashville’s way …. with a final score of Nashville 33 – Knoxville 14. If a couple of kicks hadn’t gone astray and with a little better support play and ball retention it might have been a different result … but then again Nashville had more knock-ons than Josh P’s had hot pancake breakfasts, so they’re probably thinking the same thing (except for Peay, who’s probably only thinking about pancake breakfasts 
).
Thanks to Nashville for their gracious hospitality and for taking us to a pub that had world cup rugby on TV. We’ll have the beer tickets ready by the time you guys come to visit us next fall.
Our next game is against Sewanee College this Saturday 10/6. This will be our first home game of the fall season and also happens to be Old Boys weekend. So come on out to the pitch, lay some possum paw on your brothers-in-arms and enjoy the kind of fellowship that only rugby can provide … see you out there!!
