First KRFC Golf Challenge Raises Over $30k

June 12, 2007

The first annual KRFC Golf Challenge was a huge success, the event raised over $30,000 for Dream Connection .

Thirty two golfers participated in this year’s event at Willow Creek Golf Course. While golf tournaments traditionally have many more participants, most are doing well to raise $5,000. The format of the KRFC Golf Challenge sets a goal for each golfer to raise $1,250 through friends, families, and support of local businesses.

Event Chairman Sean Mohr worked at a frantic pace for six months to organize this year’s event and have even bigger plans for next year. Mohr said, “Next year’s challenge will take place in August, which gives us 18 months to raise funds and get the word out. We’ve already set a goal to double the amount we raise next year.” Mohr is a member of KRFC and serves on the advisory board of Dream Connection.

One of KRFC’s founding members, Bob Hampstead, was also instrumental in organizing this year’s event and is very pleased with the success of the tournament. “When we started this club, we had three main goals. First we wanted to establish a sustainable rugby club in the Knoxville area. Second would be an effort to build the Club’s assets and membership. Our third goal was to utilize these resources to make a positive impact in our community. KRFC has been playing rugby in Knoxville since 1980, which meets our first goal. In the past few years we’ve built our own rugby park, and our members have grown rugby in Knoxville by building the local high school league, both of which are huge strides toward or second goal. Events like the KRFC Golf Challenge are representative of where the Club is headed in effort to meet our third goal–giving back to the community.”

The Dream Connection, Inc. is a non-profit organization. Its goal is to accept and raise charitable contributions exclusively for fulfilling the “once-in-a-lifetime dream come true” of children between the ages of three and eighteen, with life-threatening or chronically debilitating illnesses in the East Tennessee community. It is dedicated to directing 100% of its contributions to fulfilling the dreams of the children it serves.
