Colts Falter in Match Against Maryville
November 4, 2006
The Knoxville Colts (U23) dropped their first match of the fall season against a well drilled Maryville High School squad.
The teams looked to be evenly matched for the first 25 minutes as they traded blows. Maryville went up early in the match with a converted try, but the Colts promptly answered with a hard running forward pack and dotted down two tries of their own to take the lead 10-7. Strong running by the Colts’ backs resulted in another unconverted try, but alas the boys would score no more.
The end of the first half saw the Colts frazzled, and Maryville took a 22-15 lead into intermission. Maryville’s superior fitness began to shine in the second half of the match, and they were able to capitalize on the Colts’ exhausted defense. Full time had the Colts falling to Maryville 41-15.
The Knoxville Colts will be at Duff Field for practice on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 to continue their improvement. All players 23 years and younger in the Knoxville area are encouraged to attend.
