The One That Got Away …Part 2

Depending on which webpage you look at, Charleston were the #3 seeded division 2 team going into last years championships and finished in the top 8. Their first two matrix games this year they have won by margins of between 30 to 40 points. I told the boys it would take everything they had to stop these guys and that’s exactly what they gave the fans at Possum Park on Saturday. In an exciting display of running rugby the Knoxville Possums brought the Charleston Outlaws to their knees for most of Saturday’s game, and were unlucky to lose 12-17. All 12 points came from the boot of Josh “Shootin’ from the Hip” Holt, including two penalty goals and (if my information is correct) Possum Park’s first ever drop goals. Fullback Lucas Rogers was unlucky to not have scored after several brilliant runs, including a solo effort that was held up over the line.

Much excitement was also added to the match by the latest addition to our team, Rick “That’s my ball bitch” Scott. Rick was so all over the opposite scrumhalf that the poor guy was seen calling his lawyer at half time trying to get a restraining order. Our forward pack was much improved over last week, our backline stuffed it down their throats every chance they got … we didn’t deserve to lose and I’m sure deep down Charleston know that they were lucky to come away with a win. After watching the game tape I know that we can improve also, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing those guys again before too long. And next time maybe they won’t be so lucky ….

If last weeks game didn’t convince anyone then this weeks game must have … Knoxville RFC belong in Division 2, can compete with the best of them, and we are here to stay. If you are reading this and aren’t currently playing, come to practice and get on board because this train is leaving the station.

Yours in sweaty socks,

Pete the C
Coach, Knoxville RFC.
