Asheville October 12, 2004

October 13, 2004

Knoxville picked up (2) HS, an Old Boy, one of Asheville’s players and played 1-man down against Asheville.

Asheville’s forwards came out quick and scored the first try. After that, a stingy Possum defense thwarted every Asheville offensive, wearing them down. The number of players was made even for 15 minutes of the 1st half as one of Asheville’s forwards was sin-binned for punching.

Possum tries: Rooster and Tyler hooked up on a sweet lineout call and the other (2) tries were scored out wide (can’t remember who). Half-time score was 17-7.

The 2nd-half was more of the same. Asheville had another player sin-binned and the thin Possum forwards held Asheville’s forwards in-check long enough for our backs to take control scoring (3) tries out wide. Final score: 34-7

As usual, this was a very physical game. Our (2) HS boys stepped-up as did Blaylock at full-back with some well-placed kicking. Our line-outs were terrrible, but understandable with a new jumper and a new lifter. We held our own in the scrums (despite 1 less man) managing to steal some crucial ones late in the game. Eddie’s penalty kicks for touch were devastating.
